As.Michael sez... It's a... snorkelpalooza!

But do note the photo where they are electro shocking up fish, and potentially hellbenders and snorkelers too.  I think there will be lots of various activities based upon last year's photos.  My daughter and i are looking forward to this camping weekend and will likely stay another couple days into Asheville and Gondor.  I have explored this area quite a bit over the years.  Gonna miss the Presidents presense.  I know there are a lot of other NANFA members in the region, but unless they check out NANFA's forum...

I have no motivation to seine or collect / keep fish but will gladly study the net's contents with a permitted leader.

I am sending in my $50. today.

Update...

The Wolfe, my daughter Cyan, myself, Bryce, Jeremy and Dave from Freshwaters Illustrated and i think NANFA members Brandon and Evan will be attending in addition to the NC university students and host our Tiffany Peters.  The original host, Ani Popp, now has a conflict and will not attend nor will the electroshocker / permit holder Bryn Tracy.  Without permits there will be no collecting for take home use.  However we will likely seine and use photo tanks for streamside pictures.  No collecting.

Snorkeling should be awesome.  Gonna be an excellent time i suspect.

There was thought of a Trout Hatchery and or a Mussel Facility tour but that will not occur, one is closed and the other under rehab.  It is a Snorkel Palooza and we will make the most of it while under water and around the campfire telling fishtales.

Leaving in the AM.  Packing today.  Should be a fine adventure.  Michael, Bryce, the FWI guys, my daughter Cyan, young Evan and his cousin with all the NC university students.  The sweltering days of Summer will be nullified by the cool high mountains of NC and that crystal clear waters of the Snorkel Palooza.

I posted a series of captioned photos of our 4 days at the SnorkelPalooza on my FaceBook account.

Excellent gathering in a wonderful part of the Southeast.  Perfect weather, mostly clear water and fun folks.  It was nice to be included / invited with the UNC folks and we NANFans  outnumbered them by 2.  I would like to return in 2017.  This was in the general area of the 2014 NC convention, and in fact we snorkeled 3 of the same sites.

We need a story to go with that Snot Otter picture!

I was trying out my GoPro as a still camera.  I don't think it did a very good job of capturing close up stills, but I got a few overall pictures that are pretty good. And I did get some video that I will be sharing that makes up for everything else.

Bryce was concerned that the greenfins were so skittish... yeah, sure, I see what you mean Bryce.

Of course I am just nuts for snorkeling.

And we were at an amazing site on Sunday.

I approached the dam ever closer.

and eventually even got in the old structure to look back down stream.

Bryce is always helping me out by telling me where the best fish are

Hero Green is working on a video, so no telling what kind of music we will get...

From the Snorkelpalooza... my highlight experience under the dam watching these two monsters go at it!

Regardless of what Michael said this is how most of the Greenfins reacted to me.

But I did get lucky a couple of times.

And fresh from under a rock.

Onward to the Gates of Gondor.

And the battle of the Galacturas.  Michael captured the best record of this behavior via video; I went through a ton of pixels for a few stills.

Sorry, they're quite soft.  The action was very fast and so was the current.  You should plan to attend next year, it was a blast.

That is one large, dark, green Nothonotus. Very nice job. He dies t look scared of you... Just angry about you poking around under his rock with a camera. That's a great shot of a great fish.
