In my 20 gallon I have 3 flagfish (1 male 2 female) and a sailfin molly. The last male I had got covered in a white fungus and  I put him down because he lost his eye and half of his face. Well I just got up this morning to find that my current has a somewhat less severe case of this white, hair-like fungus on his head and chest. The weird thing about this is the females never got the fungus, never get sick, and even survived my hornwort shedding all of it's leaves in the 2.5 gallon. The molly is perfectly fine also.

What do you recommend I do? I don't want to lose another flagfish.

Last water change was 6 days ago

maybe salt will help?  1 teasp per gal.  Also read up on Flexibacter (Columnaris) and see if it might be that.  Its often confused with fungus.

should I use aquarium salt or reef salt? I have reef salt on hand. Since I will need to treat the water itself, what salinity would be best? I have plants so the lower the better.

Use aquarium salt, or common "rock salt."

Marine salt mixes tend to have a lot of other minerals that don't offer anything for the fish's health but can change the chemistry of the tank water.

1 teaspoon of salt per gal should make approx 1.5 grams per liter (1.5 ppt)
