For the last several years this event was in the Chicago area and Mike B (our regional rep of Indiana) and several others have gone over and worked a bit to help set up and have been given a table for us to display.

We got an invitation for this event, but since it moved to NJ, we need a new crew to take on the event.  Do we have any folks out there in the NY/NJ area that would be willing to make sure that we are represented?

Denis (dsuperman) has volunteered to help out and now needs a team of a few more people to help him properly represent NANFA.

Helping with the NANFA booth at Aquatic Experience is a useful expenditure of your time. It only takes a couple of people to staff the booth as most attendees are more interested in the commercial exhibits than those of clubs and other organizations. This allows time to take breaks from the booth to explore the rest of the show.

Those who stop by the booth frequently have interesting stories of local native fish collecting. It is also fun to explain what NANFA is to others and to stir up interest in local fish and their conservation. With the attendees already interested in fish, it is easy to enlighten them.

The commercial booths allow you to see the latest in foods, lighting, filtration, and other aspects of the hobby. Some booths have various equipment running so that you can compare them side-by-side. I bought a couple of LED lights based on these demos that I have been very satisfied with. Free food samples are common, allowing you to try different foods without buying entire containers.

I found the plant dealers particularly useful as I was able to purchase and grow some plants that i had not seen before. I found the dealers to be very knowledgeable about their plants and were very helpful in helping me select plants that would likely grow well in my tank setups.

Overall, the show floor is kind of like having a Wal-Mart-sized fish store. You are likely to see equipment that you didn't know existed. There are many set-up display aquariums that are tremendous eye candy for fish nuts. I found the shrimp contest to be quite interesting each year.

I took many photos of tropical fish that my local fish club newsletter editor (my wife) used in the club newsletter. There are large displays of identified and labeled tropical fish in nicely set-up tanks that allow very nice, easy photos. As an exhibitor, you are allowed early access to the show floor, of which I took advantage by photographing each Aquatic Gardening Association contest tank. These photos each year provided an easy plant landscaping discussion program for my local fish club.

There are also interesting talks that are free to those with exhibitor passes to attend where other attendees have to pay extra for them.

Each year, I brought one or two local fish club members with me. Although not NANFA members, they have an interest in native fish and helped staff the booth. They only had to listen to Mike Berg and I talk to passersby for a few minutes to be able to admirably promote NANFA. They were also good company on the six-hour round trip drive to and from the show.
