I live in Myrtle Beach but recently I visited my place in Lantana, Florida

I went out and did some fresh water fishing and collecting along the canal the runs down 441 in Palm Beach County.

I spent about 2 hours and surprisingly only caught one native species (Alligator Gar) the other fish collected were multiple Mayan Cichlids,1 Texas cichlid, and 3 African Jewel cichlid.
These invasive species have know doubt has aa negative effect on the sunfish population

I was amazed (appalled) at the number of Jewel Cichlids I saw last time I was in South Florida.  Someone needs to make them into a sushi delicacy of some kind.  Start a high demand market for this high yield fishery.

I was recently collecting in Tampa and it seemed that 2/3 of what was caught in the dipnet was black acaras (as well as a couple of weather loaches) - overall it was a successful and enjoyable day, but catching so many invasives is frustrating.

About four years ago, I collected a Jewel Fish just outside of Myakka State Park. I took to the Fall Auction of the Raleigh Aquarium Society and I couldn't give that thing away. BTW, I also live in Myrtle Beach.
