Dry Creek, Abbeville County, SC.  Savannah or Stevens Creek Drainage.

Enlarging any of these pictures helps quite a bit.

I've made first this guy everything possible.  It was extremely silvery reflective, almost like looking indirectly at a mirror reflecting the sun.  Sandbar Shiner seems likely, but so does Eastern Silvery, and even Golden.  Did not drop scales like a silvery, and didn't have a black mark on the dorsal or I might even throw in the possibility of a Cyprinella.  That seriously underslung mouth should be helpful, but it isn't to me.  Whatcha think?

And how about this one?  Default unknown SC sunfish is Redbreast, but that doesn't seem quite right.  Dollar is not out of the question, but quite unlikely based on range.  Maybe Pseed.  Looked at mouth striping, belly color, fins, patterns and coloration and got nothing but confused. The nonexistent extension of the gill flap is vexing, too.  Likely making this way harder than it is...

And check it out, four pictures and not one of 'em suck!  New camera agrees with me so far!   :D/

I would call the Lepomis a Pumpkinseed based on the mouth size, opercular coloration, spots, and body shape. Dollars are more compact and less slender even at that size. Doesn't look like Redbreast pics I've seen at that size either.

Photo tank shots are easier for me to identify shiners.

Eastern silvery (snout shape, small eye, plain silver scales with no dark edging) and redbreast

Agree with Gerald on both, Eastern silvery and redbreast.

Thanks, guys. I appreciate the feedback.  I am rusty for sure, and I was never that great to start with!
