Hello all,

I appreciate what NANFA does and I respect the vast amount of knowledge you all have.  I am looking for some advice on whether this is a banded sunfish or a bluespotted sunfish?   As far as range goes, bluespotted are more common in this location in Maryland, however Banded have been documented as well.   I am thinking the answer is bluespotted, however, the visible bands and the brownish tint have me questioning whether this could be a banded sunfish.

Thank you!

Jesse

Banded tend to have lines of blue around the face where the blue spotted does not. Looks like a blue spotted to me but I am no expert.

The real reason I am replying is that I live in Maryland and I am very interested in where you found that little guy and how you caught him. I am looking to add a few to my next tank.

Another good indicator is the "chunk" factor. Bandeds are, well, robust. B-spots are more typically thin.

I live in Maryland, in what general area did you catch it? I've been wanting to get some, but they are hard to catch on hook and line.
