Apparently in my state (WA) it's illegal to collect non-game fish or collect fish for 'bait', or any purpose not related to fishing itself (apparently research doesn't count). Since I'm mostly interested in minnows and smaller fish, this really hampers my ability to start working on my tank. Are there reliable sources for purchasing fish without breaking the bank?

I'd be looking at Black banded sunfish, maybe a tadpole madtom, and a handful of smaller fish for a 20 tall tank

We do have reputable vendors who are NANFA active and recommended. They are listed in the Commercial Vendors section of the Native Fish part of the Forum. There is also a "trading dock" section where you may find other things. This is a dues-paying members benefit only.

As the vendors are readily found on-line, and we try to support those who share our interests; usually if you have to buy a fish we suggest these guys http://jonahsaquarium.com/and http://zimmermansfish.com/index.html I have not gotten fish from either myself, but they are highly recommended by fellow NANFAns. I have ordered nets from "Jonah", and they are fantastic. I have heard Brian Zimmerman speak, and seen some of his work he's done for NANFA and native fishes and have no qualms about sending you to him either.

And there is this. http://www.aquabid.c....cgi?fwusnative

Notice the banner! We don't get to vet these vendors, but most of them are sound. But beware, sometimes there are guys selling
misidentified fish on there, and other issues. Our vendors are rock solid. I wouldn't hesitate to buy off of AB, and have many
times, but DYODD.

Thanks for the leads! I need to figure out what all I'm getting, but I figure it's good to start looking now
