Fishmas time is here
Happiness and cheer
Fun for all that NANFAns call
Their favorite time of year

What are you getting for Fishmas this year?
  • I see the Fishes in the Freshwaters of Florida is up on Amazon (use Amazon Smile and donate to NANFA). But its not really coming until March.
  • For those coming to the convention in June, there is no real 'Fishes of Georgia" but there is this and this which together are kinda fun (and then just get the TN book on line for free and one of the Alabama books).
  • new seines?
  • new boots?

Let us ll know!

Thanks for the heads-up on the Freshwater Fishes of Florida. It just made my list. Bill Flowers and I made a collecting trip to the Bonifay, FL area in October. We collected sailfin shiners, flagfin shiners, Heterandria formosa, banded pygmy sunfish, russetfin topminnows, and others in primarily Holmes Creek and Black Creek.

I just got a box of Swedish Fish in our local aquarium club gift exchange on Saturday. I guess they don't count as natives.

I treated myself to some new fish for Fishmas.  They are American, but of the central variety.  I know, I know, cast me out.  I'm glad to say that my remaining stock of natives was happily relocated to a public aquarium where they are now all on display.  So it was a good Fishmas for them, too.

Fingers crossed for waders. Ripped mine open in Michigan on a guard rail...

I love that pic Ben!

Merry Fishmas to all!

I'm getting a new handle extension for my Perfect Dipnet thanks to Mark!  Next year should be even better!  Other than always needing more fishing tackle (and buying it), I have just about everything I need for my aquariums.  All I need to do is finish setting them up and then collecting more natives for them in addition to the ones that I have now.  I'm getting some new power tools so I can rebuild and reorganize my basement into the fishroom that I've always wanted.

Wait! What? ...you mean you can get new fish and not have to get another aquarium?  Hmmm...for some reason that just doesn't seem right!!!  I am getting a canister filter to upgrade the filtration on the 120g that I recently set up.

...and yes, the Fishes of Florida book is now added to my wish list!

The boss of my house has limited me to one tank until the last kid is out of the house.  So only another 18.5 years to go.

 6.5, 2, and one conveniently due after the spring collecting season!  However, I hope to cash in my bday chips to be able to go collecting this spring.

I did pick up a couple of nice frames from your store, Michael, ("Michael's")  to frame up some nice Joe Tomelleri prints I got last Fishmas!

Nice pics (a reasonable substitution when you cant have more aquariums).

Congratulations on the expanding family!  We are adding a seven-year-old who will be joining our family about the same time that you welcome your newest one! ...and yes, with or without the added tanks those pictures are a great addition to your home.

The Tomelleri prints are great, but don't you think you really ought to have a set of four or five, all be mounted in one frame that's say 2 ft tall and 8 ft wide ????

Funny you say that, I do have 2 more prints, A Bluespar and Bluebreast darter. I was just looking at getting 2 more, matching frames and mats.  I do like your idea of one large frame, but haven't seen something like that.  I feel like that would be expensive, no?, as it would be something custom made?  I wait for the holiday sales at 'Michael's' and get $30 frames for half off or better.  I'm open to suggestions if you have a frame guy! :)

Yeah, and then imagine if it were 2ft deep and the fish actually moved around. That would be...

Well, that would all depend on how much "improvizational field engineering" you could get by with, given your intended "use case."
