Pic taking from the old rail bridge. I dont know what this fish is. Maybe around 12. Lots of darters on the rocks along the shoreline, too.

It does look garlike, but impossible to give a good ID with that picture. I have the same trouble!

Fortunate to have multiple watersheds within a reasonable drive, with the Upper Yadkin, Watauga, and Upper New watersheds within 40 minutes.

If it is a gar, it's a long nose gar according to fishmap.

It doesn't look like a gar to me. I think it's probably an Atlantic needlefish (Strongylura marina).

Yeah, I was thinking some kind of needle fish. Because it looked kinda iridescent. Thanks.

You're quite welcome. I always enjoyed them watching them hunt.

This location has lots of bald eagles, too. So cool.

Thomas, next time you head to the beach, check out the Intercoastal Waterway, marshes or back bays and you should see them chasing bait in the shallows. I caught big ones many years ago off the pier at Daytona, so also at night watch for them around lighted areas of any pier chasing bait.
