Hello there,

I was able to get a strain of fundulus zebrinus from pease river in copper breaks state park in Texas. I live in the south west of France and i was wondering wether i could keep them outdoors especially during winter. The temperatures may drop below 23°F for a few days in january and february sometimes less. The container is about 200 liters buried in the ground so it wont freeze down to the bottom.

I would say yes. There are introduced populations in Montana and a few other northern states. If you are concerned, a stock tank heater will keep the water from freezing at all. It would likely be fine without.

Thanks for the reply i will keep the adults outside without heater it may freeze on the surface but it does not matter. I have many youngsters so i will take some inside in an unheated tank.

Sounds like a plan. Let us know how things turn out.
