anyone ever breed bowfin in captivity * not in a pond as I have some large ones in a pond, * but say in the home aquaria? is it possible? say in a 650gallon?
I'm sure It is possible if one really wanted to do so. I'm not aware of anyone that has done so though.
I have considered trying this myself when I have more time to really focus on this species to a greater degree.

We have tried in a lab setting first naturally then with hormone injection, it never worked it. I'm sure there was some enviromental cue we were missing.
Thats really why I'm holding off. I'm not sure what is required in regards to "pulling the trigger" with these fish.
It seems to be a more complicated process than day length and temp manipulation. I'm sure it can be done in a small system but how and just what that trigger is remains an elusive prize.

It has been done several time in my lab, just before I got there. I will see if we have any publications on it yet.
Any info I would appreciate...I know this has been done however the info seems to be sketchy and not well documented.
The few papers I have are rather vague in the procedure area and mostly just say it was done.
