Do they have any forums on crawfish here?

Last year Louisiana was hit with Indian White head disease . It was found in several ponds growing P. Clarkii and White River Crawfish (Procambarus zonangulus).

There has been NO WORD of anything on this in local newspapers. I was wondering if anyone here has picked up on anything? Whitehead doesn't just "go away" in one season.

If you put them on a hook, they are called MUDBugs.
If you boil 'em in hot seasoned water with onion, celery, Tobasco, Zatarain's crawfish boil ingredients and then dump in some more cayenne, bay leaf and garlic .... mixed with enough salt to make your BP go triple digits at the Dr. office the next day......then they are called Crawfish.

........and if you're South of I-10 , East of Gueydan, West of Breaux Bridge and North of the salt marsh in Vermilion parish......they call 'em ecrevisse'

schambers.........YOU remind me of an S. Chambers who used to live in a houseboat in Oregon.
WE both used to write for a NATIONAL fishing magazine. I had the gear column and S. Chambers did the REAL articles which required reporting and such.

If YOU happen to be THAT S.Chambers, PM me as we have a lot of catching up to do.....

If you are not, then I sincerely apologize for all of this.
Its a southern thing, we think we know EVERYBODY!

OTHERWISE, we do like crawfish, very much. When I did some work for the university down here on harvest techniques (besides traps) I ate so much I actually lost the taste for them for a few years. Same thing happened in the Delta when we worked with catfish farming.......
Anyway, keep in touch.

Ecrevisse, ca se bon

Nope, sorry, not that schambers. I've lived in NW Ohio most of my life, except for a couple years in PA.

I've never even tasted crawdad, just played with them in the crick a lot when I was a kid, now I'm doin' it again!

You need to join the Catfish Alliance. You have to be a NANFA member join the C/A, but at least the latter is free!

Well, excuse me for misnomer.

I spent 30 years working in and around commercial fishing folks. I met a lot of people in this country and over seas too. Saw a lot of sights and learned a lot too.

The Chambers i knew started writing for the same magazine I did just about the time I stopped due to some health issues. They had a real nice houseboat in Oregon that was wiped out by a mudslide.
I lost track of the family after that.

Anyway, nice to hear from you and maybe one day you'll travel down here between Jan. and June and get a taste of Cajun style crawfish or at least some crawfish etouffe.

I ain't sure about the C/A folks........ my last visit on business in the Delta was up in Greenville, Leeland and Itta Bena. We had a thing called the Dixie Seine and it was quite revolutionary as compared to what they were using. However we had all sorts of delivery problems and time schedules and the whole business just collapsed.

I often wondered how my buddy was doing over at America's Catch. They had the cleanest operation I ever saw. Beautiful ponds, well kept berhms, a fleet of trucks with O2 sensor long probes....just first class all the way.

The one thing I do miss is the fried catfish dinners at Sherman's in Greenville. I'd drive the 7 hours from here just to get a plate of their catfish fillets.

Oh Oh, now I done it........I went from crawfish to catfish platters...... I'm going to bed hungry tonight!
