Greetings all!!

I just learned o this site a few moments ago and wasted no time signing up. I'm Oddball. Named so due to the fish I maintain and, I suspect, due to lifestyle (according to family, anyway).
I maintain around 110 aquariums in a converted (pun intended) church that has become my hatchery. I raise mainly tropicals but, do have several species of natives (FL gars, Gambusia, flathead cats, LMBs, blk crappie, green sunfish, etc.). I've maintained natives on and off for the 40+ years I've been involved in this crazy mixed-up fishkeeping hobby of ours.
Anywho, I'm here to learn more about the natives we keep and look forward to offering my experiences with them.

ANOTHER Mississippian - now, after 10 years of collecting solo, they are crawling out of the woodwork! As Arlo Guthrie said, "Down south they call it the Catfish Alliance!"

Welcome Oddball, glad you made your way over here.

Irate, this is a major reason we wanted this forum, so us crazy fish people can find each other.

Yeah, the NANFA email list is kind of limited to insiders in a way. This forum definitely gets broader exposure! I predicted it would take off, and we're just seeing the tip of the iceberg!

Oh, and hey - welcome to the forum, Oddball! And welcome to the "piscene rainforest" that Mississippi is a part of.

Great to be aboard. If the weather holds, I'm shooting for a Saturday collecting trip around the spill gate from Grenada Lake to the Yazoo River. Hoping to get some NON-HYBRID Morone mississippiensis (yellow striped bass). Sunday, I'm heading to Starkville. There's a mottled population of crayfish that only exists in that area. I'm going to try to get some pics since the only ones on record are decades old.

Guess I should mention...I live near Grenada lake which is the smaller of 3 lakes in this area. It's only 14 miles by 10 miles. Further north are Sardis and Enid Lakes. There are also a handful of rivers around here including, of course, the Mississippi.

Here's a pic of my target, Procambarus sp. "Starkville"

I've done a good bit of collecting near Yazoo City and Oil City, but that's about as far north as I have gone except for a trip to Tishomingo County.
