I was just thinking of doing the same thing with a mason jar and a funnel, but this person super-sized it

While it's a great idea to reuse a material it is likely illegal unless used in a private pond. Most states regulations, and yes I know this is a generalization, state that openings for minnow traps cannot exceed 1 or 1.5" in diameter. So unless the funnel is modified or that person plans on collecting from a private pond it's illegal. On the subject of those water cooler jugs, they make great vessels for live food culturing and I've even thought of using them for killies if I had the space.

Yeah I figured it would be illegal being so large,
I could use it in the neighbors lake around here though.
I don't know where I'd get any jugs.

Now, I think the hardest part is getting that thing out of the water. He'll be bringing up 9 gallons of water when he pulls the trap up. The holes won't drain 9 gallons fast enough to make it lighter.
