Welcome nativeplanter.

Like you, I share an interest in native fish and plants both aquatic and terrestrial. I must admit I need alot of help when it comes to aquatic plants. I lack both ID as well as husbandry skills with native aquatic plants. I know for a fact you share common interest with actually many of us here. It's funny how many of us enjoy gardening, fishing and natives at home as well. I look forward to your input in the forum.

I'll leave some your technical questions to others but I think many of the features you've requested are availble. There mey be some conflict since you just joined. We'll get to work on it.

Hey everyone, I recognize a lot of you (thanks skipjack for the invite) but for those of you that don't know me I am a very avid fish keeper (natives and otherwise), fisherman and fish collecter. I keep a number of natives but sunfishes are probably my favorites and I think as far as knowledgeable goes that's my strongest point. I went to college for aquaculture with a concentration in aquatic science and though I didn't get a degree I did very well in all my fish-based classes. I took icthyology and in that class we focused mostly on NY natives and their identification so if anyone needs help with fish from that area give me a heads up. Hopefully I can be of some help.

I think the directory structure is a bit too complex?  Too many forums.  FWIW.  Except there is no politics and religion forum   :D

People said the same thing about AP when we started 2 years ago. Now, it would be extremely hard to divide all those posts out and change anything. Other sites have all their crap lumped together...to the point you can't find anything. Makes me happy to see people break the information down....so you can easily navigate once you understand the layout.

Wow! Thank you! I am sure I speak for all of us when I say that Linking up to us on AP may be the coolest thing anyone could ever do! Thanks for your support! Matt

As you can see Chad we know a good layout when we see one  It might take some time for people that don't regularly visit this type of format but I think in time it will wear on new visitors.

Hey thanks for starting this site up :D . I wasn't invited by anybody but I saw you link over at AP and thought this is the perfect site. I don't have as much knowledge about fish in general but I would have to say that I know more about Natives. And I will try to help out as much as possible.

Thanks again
Wolfie

Thanks for joining Wolfie. This would actually be a good place to try and get a positive ID on your "hybrid". There are some of us who believe it is a hybrid, but the more opinions you can get the better.

Great! Welcome aboard Wolfie! We are all here to learn, and I think we are in the company of those "in the Know"

Does anyone have the same problem I am having in that I have to log in twice? I like to use the "read new posts" feature, but find that it only shows up after I have logged in a second time.

Are you blocking cookies? The site tries to set a cookie the first time you login and if it can't it may be asking for your credentials again.

Dunno. Internet Explorer security is set to "medium", so some cookies are blocked. But I understand that this is a fairly common way for most people to set it up. Don't ask me the criteria for how they are blocked. It's outside my realm of understanding.

I just tried logging in again, to see what happens. I logged in, and the resulting page looked the same as before. I then hit the "US Native Fish" headline bar thingie to see if that might refresh things. Nope. I logged in a second time, and then magically the page changed to the one that shows when I am logged in. I have no idea what might be different the second time. Did it the same way.

Interesting, I will play around with it in IE and see if I can repeat.

If anyone else has the same issue, please let me know.

Well, just checking to see if I can do this. I haven't really ventured into this forum format before. Seems like everyone is pretty anonymous, though I know who some of you are :) I suppose it is hazardous to put one's personal info out there on the wild, wild, cyberspace west. Anyway, this is Mark. I probably won't post much, but will likely drop by from time to time. Hint: I'm in California... southern California. Only been here two years. There are no freshwater fish here! Well, not compared to the east, anyway. There's hardly any freshwater here!

This thing is kind of complicated, so if I'm doing something wrong, please let me know :)

Peace.

Glad to know you Mark! Please post alot!
Really, if you spend a little bit of time, you will see that this forum is pretty simple. As long as you stick to native fish, I am sure you will make few mistakes. Considering that Cali is poor in species, remember that the trading post is a great place to find fish that you may want, and there are also a couple of licensed native fish dealers here. Matt
