what can i feed to my crawfish? i don't think he is getting his fair share.

can i drop some kind of frozen meat in front of his little cave? what kind of meat? frozen shrimp? frozen beef?

i'd like to feed him something the other fish won't eat.

also, how much food should i feed a relatively small crawfish for one night? how often should i feed them?

thanks!

Try algae wafers during day. Any kind of frozen / dried arthropod (i.e. bloodworms, brine shrimp) at lights out. Night crawler chunks at lights out also good.

I second sinking wafers. I usually swap out between algae wafers and omnivorous wafers. They sink quickly and are typically too big for other fish to carry off.

i havent tried algae wafers...

just curious, if the algae wafer doest get eaten, will the algae establish in my tank?

also, do you think frozen chunks of tuna would be ok food for crawfish?

It's worth a try! I bet it will get eaten quickly. Crayfish will eat all kinds of foods.

that's good to know!

i think i'm gonna go open a can of tuna, put it in a bag, and put it in the freezer. then i'll drop a chunk in tonight before i go to bed and see if its still there in the morning :)

well i just put tiny bits of un-frozen tuna in with tweezers to see if my fish would eat it, the shiners attacked it (what else is new  ) but didnt really eat it. the pumpkinseed ate a little bit, but to my suprise, my bluegill was all over eating tuna.

i've been having a hard time getting the bluegill to eat, he would even turn down live worms! but he is very eager to eat tuna. i'm glad i found that out.

as for the crawfish, i do not know where he is? he's not in his little crawcave that i built for him, i think he burrowed under one of my decorations which is hollow underneath.

i noticed my crawfish walking along the front glass last night after the lights had been off for about 20 minutes, so i dropped a thumbnail sized chunk of frozen tuna in his path and he walked right to it and immediately started eating.

when i woke up this morning the chunk was about halfway gone, and when i got home from school it was all gone.

the crawfish is very active today, crawling all over the tank, even with the lights on! he's never done that before. i'm thinking that he got the nutrients he needs to be active.

Crayfish walking about at all hours indicates it is trying to leave or does not feel well. Watch water quality. Also when feeding with nonliving food peices, they sould be consumed immediately. Make portions to be consumed in 10 minutes or less.

Crawfish seem to love beef liver when I put it in my fish traps.

my craw fish stopped crawling all over the tank when i took your advise to stop feeding them fresh dead minnows
plus they started to shed less often and were not as mean to the other tank mates.wafers is the way to go.
