Howdy all, I hope to be in the water a whole bunch this spring. I'm sure I'll be in the Kankakee often for photos and I hope to also hit the Tippecanoe and southern Illinois. I'm hopeful we could try and get some group trips together while darters are in color. I'm open every weekend that I know of until the last week in April.

Yep, I should be open at least every Saturday, unless I have an unusual heavy homework/study load. I think the Tippecanoe would be great in May, because E. tippecanoe should be in great color along with all the Percina, minnows and such. Some swamp crawls sound good too!

Hey Mike, I hope we'll form the trips in this topic so keep an eye on this topic. If anyone is interested in Kankakee valley trips please speak up here. Mark and I throw these things together at a moments notice without really planning anything. We can start posting trips and I feel almost confident that as along as the weather and water holds out....we'll be somewhere not terribly far either next Saturday or Sunday.

Any idea when you'll be in the Tippecanoe? It sounds interesting to me, and a closer drive, too!

Mike, after the rain this week I might be stuck indoors. We'll see about water levels though.
Ed, No dates yet. This I hope to hammer this out in this thread.

That was quite the drive for us downstaters but so well worth it. I'd be down for it again.

I agree, interesting fish and folks. It was quite funny, while taking fish pictures I guy talked to us about eating raccoon and if the water in our phototanks was for drinking; inebriated to say the least. If I go again, I will probably stay two days, its a drive that is just long enough to where you really can't do any exploring if you want to get back home at a reasonable time. I hear the slackwater stuff around there is just as cool as the main Tippecanoe!

I'm going to plan a two day trip to the Tippecanoe area. I want to see a few sites on the river and sample local lakes as well.

I don't know where the state of Indiana came up with most of the people we talked to that day. It was down right hilarious.

I'm looking at an Illinois trip from Friday the 10th to Sunday the 12th. We'll sample many small streams south of I-70 but the majority south of I-74. This is a CPR trip catch, photo and release since Illinois has prohibitive laws (no taking of fish). I really can't have a large group since many of these sites are tiny and parking is a major issue. Maybe we can carpool? We'll I'll camp in Shawnee forest at various locations. Cell coverage is very limited at most of the sampling sites so joining the trip midway could be difficult.

Naturally all of this depends on weather and water conditions.

Oops. Sorry, some snags in southern Illinois plan and gonna have to postpone and instead have a less ambitious northern/central Illinois trip. still trying to figure out locations...

Northern Indiana May 16th and 17th

I'd like to sample natural lakes and the Tippecanoe River for photographs. Anyone care to organize this here?

Dang! I wanted to participate in this one, I've been waiting for the date announcement, but I've already committed to be elsewhere on the 17th. Maybe next time. Have fun!
