I have an established 29 gallon planted tank. The current inhabitants are 1 Creek Chubsucker, 1 Spotted Sucker, 2 Northern Starhead Topminnow, 1 Blackbanded Sunfish, 2 Banded Pygmy Sunfish. I am adding a school of about 15 Brook Silversides. I have been conditioning them, and I hope they'll live. I have one from another tank that's lived for about 6 months that I'm also transferring to this tank. Wish me luck.

Good luck! Keep us posted on how it goes, would really love to get a school of those going. I just started a 75 community tank that silversides would make a great addition to but I don't think I have the know-how to keep them alive for the long term.

Here's the update:

15 brought back from Detroit
1 introduced into the tank from another aquarium...

all 15 died from Detroit. The one from the other aquarium is live and well. They are tough. They all survived the trip home, overnight in a bucket, the warming of the water. They went through the acclimation process as I did with the last batch that I brought back, but I went to work for the day and found all of them dead on the bottom. Oh well....my partner at the powerplant has a couple hundred, maybe he had more success. I'll keep you guys posted.

when i said "They are tough." I didn't mean physically in any way. I mean they are very finicky to keep. ha. :-?

The problem I always had was that my silversides would get close to the filter, and the force would somewhat wrap them around it. They died shortly after this happened to them. Broke their spine maybe? This happened to all of them, which was 3, and they all died 15 minutes after I had put them in. Maybe I should get something to keep fish from getting so close to the filter.

Man, thats too bad about the silversides. They seem to me to be one of the hardest fish to keep in captivity. I will probably attempt to keep some later on this year but I really don't hold out much hope for them.
