I'm looking for a good, reliable spot to catch some small bowfins. I've read that they're supposed to be in just about any swampy, murky water around here, but I'm having a lot of trouble finding any. Any good info or advice you could offer would be priceless to me and be much appreciated.
Where can I find juvie Bowfins?

Welcome camber.
Bowfin locations are not terribly common in Northern Illinois but when you find one, you will likely find a great many. I find most Bowfin in oxbows and lowland waters that are both permanent and seasonally flooded by largish rivers. I would recommend looking on google earth for locations near large rivers that fit the description.
As far as murky or turbid water. I have found Bowfin in turbid water but I believe they'll take clear vegetated waters if given the chance. They do seem to thrive in water that stagnates and is oxygen deprived in the heat of summer but few have the stomach to venture into these places.
Lets get out fishing, maybe we'll come across some of these places.
