Is anybody here from MN. I'm from a suburb right outside of the Twin Cities and I'm hoping to either go collect a couple natives or purchase a few....

Greetings fellow Minnesotan,
What type of natives are you looking for?
For the past several years the NANFA regional rep for MN has organized an annual Darter Hunt each spring. I think you might enjoy this. It is a great opportunity to catch several different darter species as well as many other fish. I don't know if she is organizing one this year or not but hopefully so. You can get her contact info on the NANFA home page in the regional outreach section under activities and programs if you would be interested.

Thanks for the tip! I'll look into that. I don't have my heart set on anything too much, I was thinking about getting a juvenile sunfish or two and maybe a small bullhead to roam the bottom and just start out slow.

Hi from Minnesota!

How big of a tank are you going to set up? You shouldn't have a problem stocking with what you're describing. Welcome, by the way!

I have a 36 Gallon Bowfront that I'll be setting up this week and most likely fishless cycling for a few weeks! I just made a run up to Forest Lake Pet yesterday (I see your from FL)!!

Yep, we don't live far from there!

If you're looking for some sunnies to start with, try Clear Lake, here in Forest Lake. There's lots of space to fish from shore, and if you get there at the right time in the spring, the sunnies bed like crazy and are easy to catch. In fact, I made a video of it last year and put it on youtube.

As it goes with most metro lakes, I think the breeding population may be slightly stunted in size. The colors on the fish however, are stunning. I'd put a couple of them in a 36...

The darter hunt is this weekend (5/8/10) in Welch, MN. They won't catch many sunfish but it is a good contact and a good place for great darters. Also, skip the bluegills and look for Orange Spotted Sunfish along the Minnesota River Flood Plain. Smaller and prettier. Better fish for a 36. PM or E-mail for details.

Hello, I am from MN and was just wondering if you're doing the darter hunt this year. If so, I'd love to come along.

Also from MN I just setup a 26 bowfront and was thinking maybe a couple greens or a few Northern sunfish. Maybe a trio or shoal (5-7) of banded sunfish
