New to the native fishes scene and I have a cycled 20 gallon long just begging for some occupants.

Any experienced collectors in Dallas\Ft Worth willing to show a new guy the ropes?

FWIW, you don't really need to cycle freshwater tanks that the average hobbyist keeps at home, it is a myth perpetuated by the aquarium industry. Never done it in 30 years, never will. I do seed my filters, but I don't really think that that is very important either.

Seeding your filters does help cycle your tank.

I would also be very interested in going out with others from the area. I have been dropping some minnow traps at different ponds and creeks around Saginaw/Lake Worth but so far just some sunfish.

I will respond to the PMs (email addresses) and maybe we can get a small group for a sampling/collecting trip in the Ft. Worth area. I will also bring a camera for field pictures. Can we do this during the week or does it have to be on a weekend?

There are two people who would like to arrange a sampling/collecting trip to Roanoak, Tx which is about 15 miles north of Ft. worth. If anyone else wants to come please let me know. I am traveling this week but will check back frequently. When I get back I will make contact and we can arrange a time and meeting place in Roanoak (off hw 377). Everyone should have a means of sampling i.e., nets and buckets and field guide.

I am back from traveling and would suggest to: JamesH, Pam916 and Tomcattech who have expressed interest in getting together that we do so on a collection/sampling trip in Roanoak, Tx. I propose that we do this on Friday - 11, May, 2012 at 10:00 am. Anyway I will be going out that day and I think this is far enough for others to set their calendar. Let me know if you are coming and I will set a rendezvous point in Roanoak.

With a sense of where Usil is planning to go, a map, and a cell phone, you could probably catch up with them before lunchtime.

Just a thought.
