No, I wouldn't mix them. Remember that although full grown Elassoma are an inch long their fry remain under a half inch for their first four months of life. They are very vulnerable to being eaten.

Do you think that Floridae Jordanella would actually eat them? I thought they are mainly grazing fish on algae? I do feed mine flakes and frozen blood worms but I did not think that they would actually eat them, I was more worried about harssment and stress.

I have not really put any thought into breeding them, but would not mind, just need to look into a larger tank for them to do that. Thank you for your input it is appreciated. I saw someone on aquabid selling Gilberti with your name on them, I assume you do breed them? I wish I could find them here in orlando but they are not anywhere near me and would not really be interested in driving that far. They are a beautiful species!!

Yeah, that was me. If I have extra fish I try to make them available to people via aquabid.

With a one to three year lifespan if pygmy sunfish aren't breeding then they aren't in the aquarium for long. I think of it more as keeping a colony going than keeping individuals. They have such short lifespans, so the newly born fry serve to replace those that are dying of old age. And in my opinion pygmy sunfish breeding behavior (the territoriality, the color changes, the dancing) is much more interesting than their nonbreeding behavior.

Such a pretty dance

I was more worried about harssment and stress.

Yeah I would be too. My Elassoma hide even from guppies, the gray kind.

I wish I could find them here in orlando

Have you checked out page 18 of http://biology.unm.e...et al. 2009.pdf ? You're surrounded by Elassoma okefenokee, a species virtually identical to Elassoma gilberti by human eye alone. And you're only two hours from documented gilberti collection locations.
But I really don't recommend pygmy sunfish unless you have a tank dedicated just to them and the either frozen bloodworms or live grindal or black worms on hand to feed them.

My Evergladei have finally acclimated and have noticed the coloring up and dancing, I also have a couple grass shrimp in with them, do you think they should be moved out, will they be a pest if I do see fry?

I don't keep shrimp with my Elassoma. The fish eggs are too tasty and the fry are too slow for me to be sure the shrimp wouldn't be tempted to eat some.

Also, I'm not sure if you've visited the ID section of the NANFA forum but there aren't any pictures up of Elassoma evergladei. If you could take a few photos of your fish and donate them to the ID section it would be really nice of you.
