Anyone have tips for trapping fish in cold weather? Bait and positioning? Do fish eat less in cold weather?

Yesterday I set out three traps in an area I would normally get a small variety of fish. One trap yielded 4 juvenile sunfish and zero in the other two.

I know of bait shops that supplement orders with trapping and do well in winter, but they mainly trap golden shiners.

As for fish eating less in cold weather, depends on the species. Cold makes bass sluggish and lethargic but perch seem unaffected, and it makes burbot more active.

My issues with winter trapping is all the good areas are inaccessible once ice rolls in and I do not want to chisel a giant, minnow trap sized, hole in the ice like some bait shops do.
