I'm starting this post with view of the saltmarsh near hackberry bay.
This was taken this morning while surveying fishing boats.

Some of the fisheries research and fishing photos will contain dead fish and other animals.
I will try not to post anything too graphic, but some people may find them offensive.

These pics are from a couple of years ago. We try to release the fish we catch in our nets, but some do not make it.
Sharks and trammel nets do not mix well. All these were caught in the same net on elmers island beach in October.

Some days you can't get away from the jellyfish. There were so many moon jellies in this trawl we had to use a winch to get it into the boat.

Just out of curiosity; are the ones that don't make it used for food? I know shark can be quite tasty. Also, speaking of tasty, that picture of the basket of shrimp has my mouth watering.
Steve.
We are not allowed to bring hotYme any fish, but some dead ones are brought back and used for education.

I understand. I'm sure there are many reasons for that, including keeping people honest.
I'm really enjoying reading about what you're doing and seeing all of these photos and the ones in the other thread. It's quite fascinating. I just can't hardly get enough of it. Thanks for sharing these. Looking forward to more.

What is your job? Like, why are you out on a boat collecting fish?
Marine fisheries biologist, but I spend many weekends on a boat looking for fish.
In fact I think we about to launch the boat in a bit and see what we can find undet the lights in bay st louis.

Greetings from another LDWF fishnut. I'm in Inland out of Lake Charles (Sabine, Calcasieu, and Mermentau basins). I got to spend a week last summer in the Delacroix Marsh helping out with marsh sampling, and it was just about the most amazing assortment of fish I've ever seen. SW LA isn't half bad, either. See you around.
Oh man I thought I was the only one at ldwf that had a weekend fish addiction.
Let me know if you do any collecting over this way.

It's a good thing we had fish from previous trips to cook tonight because all we could catch today was atlantic croaker and sand seatrout.
Wahoo, mangrove snapper, and cuda for dinner.

This pinfish trap is in 10ish ppt. It's full of redear and redspotted sunfish.
These 2 species seem to be the most salt tolerant sunfish around here.
