Sea robins are neat. I absolutely love the look of a flying gurnard with its 'wings' spread. It's like a bird.

I love watching them dig through the sand with their detached pectoral fin ray "fingers". They seem to take to tank life well too. I han no issues getting them to eat chopped shrimp. When I was in school we had a live flying gurnard come into our lab on its way to the aquarium in new orleans. Sadly, it died over night. It had the most brilliant colors of any fish I have ever seen in person.

Really? I hadn't previously considered them because the gurnard can get so large. But if they could be kept in the aquarium that would be so totally awesome. Which species did you get to eat chopped shrimp?

After getting beat up all day collecting tissue samples in a rough 25 knot wind I must relax with an abita.

It is really good, I may be able to ship you a couple if you want. I live about half an hour from their brewery. After the free tour there you get about an hour with a cup and all the beer you can drink in the taproom.

You went out in that yesterday? Bet that was fun... It's been blowing like mad out here with whitecaps on Lake Charles.

Oh yeah it was nasty, but I took a 27 foot cabin boat so at least we were dry. Well mostly dry, took some nasty waves and spray over the transom when backing down on the trawl. Gotta get those tissue samples or something hehe

Gulf butterfish and lesser blue crab (pay no attention to the dirty fingernail. I swear it is almost not too dirty now)

Thanks. They are pretty cool, but super hard to hold and kinda feel like a tongue.
