Since I'm on a posting roll...
Spent a few days in early July at St. Pete Beach. The water was its usual warm self, but was pretty rough by Gulf standards. Found lots of these guys buried, or all but buried in the sand about where 2 - 5' waves would break. They look most like lightning welchs to me, but they don't have those bright colors, and I know nothing about snails. Any ideas?

Disclaimer: I also know nothing about mollusks.
But I have a couple of field guides.
Strombus alatus aka the Florida Stromb aka the Florida Fighting Conch seems like a good suspect. See http://z14.invisionf...p?showtopic=694 for some px showing shape and color variations.

I'll second Doug's vote -- FL fighting conch. Cool eyes.
