My laboratory group is interested in describing the reproductive schedule and life history of cyprinid fishes native to the Flint River. Several of these fish species are increasingly threatened by degradation of stream quality both locally and throughout their ranges in the eastern United States. A better understanding of such life history parameters will help to inform decisions on how to manage and protect both the river, and the diverse array of species native to the river. We seek small contributions ($2000 goal, $100 to date) through the Rockethub.com site to support both laboratory and field work. In particular, we wish to purchase an oxygen meter with accessories to conduct Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) surveys, an method to assess the quality of possibly impaired water. To complement this water testing we also seek a new combination pH/Total Dissolved Solids meter. And, we could use a new 4 meter seine net for collecting fish.

The Rockethub link for this campaign is http://rkthb.co/18176.

I just want to mention you are affiliated with University of Alabama for those who don't know.

Since NANFA was kind enough to help out with the Florida Aquarium Fish Expo, I'll be sure we make a donation to your group.
