Guess I joined this forum several years back, but haven't really been active on it, using it as more of a resource. I originally joined after acquiring some native fish from one of the members here.
At any rate, I'm a long time aquarium keeper and I have done a fair amount over the years with natives; Green sunfish, Pumpkinseeds, bass, bullhead catfish, assorted minnows, and trout. I have also collected, kept and hatched various invertebrates over the years, including dragon and damselflys mayflys, stoneflys, leeches, and crayfish to name a few.
As I age in the hobby, I find myself draw towards N. American natives more and more, but I also find myself looking for something that I can maintain long term.
I currently have a custom 40B turtle tank set up as a paludarium with a continuously breeding population of White Cloud Mountain minnows and I'm working on a similar tank for North American pygmy sunfish. My dream tank (yet to be achieved) is a 30gal coldwater sculpin tank. Tanks are planted with locally harvested aquatic and semiaquatic plants.
Most of my tanks are set-up as paludariums using a method I've developed over the years. All this started with a simple 20gal turtle tank that was originally designed to hold carnivorous plants and fish. Never had much luck with the carnivorous plants, but fell in love with the tank style.
