The annual meeting of the Southeastern Fishes Council will be held Thursday and Friday, November 13-14, 2014 at the Renaissance Hotel in Asheville, the true “Athens of the South”, North Carolina. The theme is: “Restoration: Species, Communities, and Habitats”. There will be a plenary session to kick-off the meeting followed by seven sessions running through Friday afternoon.

Abstract submission: Abstracts for oral (15 minute) and poster presentations will be due October 1st. There will be space for approximately 42 contributed talks and 25 contributed posters. Abstracts can be submitted online here. Key words should be provided. An example from last year’s 1st place student winner is provided below: Financial awards (in the amounts of $150, $100, and $50) will be given to the top three best student oral and poster presentations. Criteria for judging the contributed talks will focus on organization, appearance, significance of ideas and understanding of the subnject. Abstracts should focus on restoration of species, communities, and their habitats, including stream restoration or barrier removal projects are also of interest.

Registration: Early registration (until October 15) will be $125 for professional members and $50 for students, and includes breaks, an SFC meeting t-shirt, and the Thursday evening social. It pays to become a member of SFC!!!!!

Late registration will be $175 for professional members and $75 for students (please register early). Late registration for professional non-members is $225 and for student non-members $150. Walk-up registration will be $50 more for all categories. A guest/spouse ticket can be purchased for the Thursday social for $15 which will include heavy hors d'oeuvre and regional refreshments.

Accommodations: Marriott’s Renaissance Hotel in Asheville, NC. The Council has negotiated a price of $139 per night for 100 rooms with two queen beds and an occupancy of 4. The hotel is located within walking distance of the vibrant heart of downtown Asheville, just off I-240 on Woodfin Street, minutes away from I-40 or from I-26.

Keynote session: Four invited speakers who have worked with imperiled fish fauna and their conservation in the Southeast.
