I just shared my latest video of my native fish and got a multiple page outrage over it being "terrible" and "unethical" and I got a link saying I must have a license to get native fish. Which I knew nothing about and if I did I wouldn't have kept these. It's not a community of activist environmentalists or anything, which makes this interesting.

What is your opinion? I know 3 wild crays have died in my hands. But is this unethical? Truth be told I think it is no worse than the domesticated fish in the store. They started this way.

As a starter of native fish keeping, this is incredibly discouraging. Is this really a horrible thing to do?

EDIT: I think the link was mistaken. It say that private doesn't need a license. I guess legally I'm in the green.

Do you have a fishing license? If so, and you are obeying laws, story over. Closing this topic, because if you do not have a license then you are violating the law, depending on your state laws, and age. Feel free to start a new topic..

Before we totally close this discussion, let me just say that legal and ethical are two different things... and therefore I can say with confidence... NO! It is not unethical to keep native fish. It can be done very ethically.

Please check out NANFA's Mission, Objectives and Code of Ethics on our website http://www.nanfa.org/mission.shtml

However, depending where ou live, there are different state laws on what is legal. This is one reason why we ask people to put in their location. Since HateAlgae did not do that yet, I we cannot really help further.
