I have caught them in swampy environments by entering the water and then using a dipnet to scoop under the vegetation along the shore line... lift up... you get lots of vegetation to look through, but will also get topminnow, and pygmy sunfish this way... and the occasional pirate perch and maybe a swamp darter.

You can also stalk the individually (this is the way I have most often caught F. linealatus) in which care when you see them you sort of do an overhead slap down in them with the dip net and immediately drag the seine back... you usually only get one or two this way, but with you can just keep trying again.

I can't normally use a seine where I find F. chrysotus, so I rely on my 6' dipnet handle and SPEED! Those guys are QUICK, man!

P.S. My oldest son lives in Naples; has a business called 45 Florida Firearms.

Dipnets + heavily vegetated areas always works well for me. Or in shallow streams where you can see them, just be fast.

The best? Primacord or rotenone.
