This is going to sound odd, but I have to mark my minnow traps (with name, number, and possibly address) but haven't (despite using them) because I am not sure if their is a way to mark them that is water proof and would work on both black and metallic traps. With streams starting to thaw and me wanting to be legal on this I wonder if you have any ideas.

i used some scrap roof edging, stippled the info with a hammer and punch added contrast with a sharpie, punched a hole, tie strapped it on my crab trap, good permanent tag, legally traps must be tagged , not the line. never heard of the requirement for minnow traps though

I think that marking them is legally required in many states Josh.

It must not be required in KY. I've never seen it in the baitfish laws and I'm fairly familiar with them.

It's likely not required due to Michael's reasons.

I like the dog tag idea, but I'm in the military, so take it for what it's worth.

I use a plastic bag tied to a stake that I attach my rope to

I put all the info on a card and sealed it into a ziploc bag to keep it waterproof. Laminating should also work.

Or you could go to a Petsmart and use the machines they have for printing things on collar tags. The shiny tags might attract more fish, too.

Engraved dog tags are how I have mine marked. There are plexi ones that won't rust out there.

And DNR requires them to be marked so that they can identify the owner. It has nothing to do with people respecting who owns the traps.
