they'll come around, give them time.  Also if I were you, I'd get some Hikari carnivore sinking pellets and some floating carni-sticks.  They are a great pellet and fish seem to take to them far quicker. Just in my experience that is.

sometimes a floating shrimp or krill will get them used to the idea that its you that throws stuff in the tank... then they will start striking anything you throw in... then you can switch to a pellet.

Not sure if it was mentioned yet but you should be very careful taking freshwater mussels. Many are endangered and don't do well in tanks either (at least to my knowledge). But otherwise welcome to the forum! You'll soon find out there are many many options for native keeping!

I made sure that the mussel wasn't endangered before I decided to keep it, although I assumed it wasn't because they are absolutely everywhere. So far it seems to do ok, still alive at least haha

UPDATE: My fish have finally started taking fish food. After around seven days of nothing to eat they decided (with the guidance of the sunfish) it was time to eat. My sunfish was attacking anything that dropped in. I also added 5 tiny feeder fish (that came from a amazing looking aquarium funny enough) and they were eaten immediately. Thank you everyone for helping me get started! Cant wait till I can try to do another tank! (probably be a while though, until I have more experience
