Saturday was fish day at Sandy Creek Nature Center here in Athens, GA.  Thanks to local Georgia members John and Keith for helping out.  We got there a couple of hours before the event and set up our aquarium and got to collecting.  We had a pretty good turnout as far as people and they were all interested to see the fish and talk about their local streams.  Lots of little kids, so hopefully we influenced the next generation to appreciate the fish in the creek.

Species found yesterday:
  • Redbreast Sunfish

SC redbreast.jpg

  • Bluegill
  • Warmouth

SC warmouth.jpg

  • juv Bass (assumed largemouth)
  • Bluehead Chub

sc chub.jpg

  • Spottail Shiner

sc shiner.JPG

  • Altamaha Shiner (this was the find of the day in my opinion... a state listed species)

sc altamaha.jpg

  • Blackbanded Darter
  • Hogsucker (assumed Northern by drainage, Peterson's is not clear on on Hypentelium in the Oconee drainage)

I remember SCNC.  Vaguely.  It's been a long time since I lived there.
