I have seen sticklebacks mixed in with bait minnows in bait shops. Worth a try.

Nice male Iowa! Did you really find Rainbows in a lake? If so, that is significant. Currently there is only one known population of Rainbow Darters that spends all year in a lake.

Nice! Females are very blandly colored. Shouldn't be too hard to identity them, although male darters can get washed out when immediately collected.

As has already been mentioned earlier in this topic, sticklebacks are not good community tank species. They love to nip others and are relentless. Add to that the confines of a 10 gallon tank, you'll have issues. I'd go with the darters alone even the sticklebacks on their own will be trouble just not enough room for even a few sticklebacks they nip each other too much. I tried keeping various sex combinations of 3 - 4 in a 10 gallon and none succeeded. Didn't try just females, though.

Next question for you people. Should I replicate my native creek with algae as the main plant with rocks and a submerged dead bush and a pair of sticklebacks? Or just a Minnesota lake with sand and hornwort/elodea and a piece of wood. I'm leaning towards my stream but still unsure.
