Looking for a new dive/snorkel watch. Any suggestions guys? I prefer one that does not have to have a battery. Like an eco-drive, or one that runs off of wrist movement.

I have a Traser Nautic watch. Battery operated but I've been very happy with it. I use it diving as well as snorkeling in streams. The tridium lighting technology used to illuminate the hands and hour markers really pops in both dimly lit situations as well as in full sun. Compared to glow-in-the-dark watches.

This is really not a dive/snorkel forum. There are surely some out there where this question would fit better. Really most native fish snorkelers probably don't give a second thought to watches and other diving trinkets when they are snorkeling in a 2 foot deep riffle.

Oh, sorry, forgot that I was just logged in as a guest. No need to be hostile. My statement is true. This is not a scuba forum. No big deal, but you would probably get a better answer to this question on a scuba forum. I cant speak for all of the snorkelers here, but I maintain that they are not too worried about watches, and more concerned about chub nests.

Wow Matt that's kind of harsh. The people on scubaboard.com fall all over themselves answering my questions about where to find chub nests, and iding the odd Cyprinella. I think it gives them a nice change of pace from talking about backplates and wings, regulators, stage bottles, dive computers, and other diving related issues like dive watches. I think the new Oceanic VTX would be perfect for a 2 foot riffle.

Matt isn't saying he can't ask the question, he's simply saying he may not get the best answer here because of how few of our members use these devices.

Heck, I guess that must of sounded worse than it was meant? Yeah, you can about count the NANFA snorkel crew on one hand.

FWIW, I do use my dive watch while snorkeling in streams most of the time. This is mostly due to the fact that like most of us, I get completely entranced while Army-crawling upstream and lose track of time. The sun is my back-up watch--when it goes down it's time to get out of the water.

Yeah, I agree. I think Matt was just saying you'd get a better answer on a scuba forum, not that you cant ask it.

Ha! Michael, I don't do anything near what you do.

Brannon, sorry that I sounded offensive. I have a habit of writing real "matter of factly" and don't think too much of it. Most people have learned to recognize it, and get what I mean even if it did not come out right. I greatly appreciate our avid snorkelers, and even more I appreciate their photos. What I guess I was getting at was that many of our snorkel crew only snorkel for the purpose of seeing native freshwater fish, which can be done with minimal gear. So I assumed that gear such as watches and other specialty scuba oriented trinkets and gear were not super important to them. I may be very wrong. So my bad.

i don't use a watch, though for snorkeling depths, unless your a serious freediver, most any watch will work , for scuba i use my computer, i do like a knife though, once without one i got my hand caught in a knot of mono, got a scare and a sore wrist

Really we are lucky things like this don't happen more often. Nobody can see body language through a screen. I will have to remind myself to think twice before I hit "post". Thanks for understanding. Now hopefully someone here can help you.
