Sorry if this was posted somewhere else, but I have a 20 gallon stream aquarium and wanted to add a sunfish. I think it is relatively fast water, but I'm not 100% sure. Which species would work best?

The most stream oriented sunfish outside some of the basses is the Redbreast Sunfish.  Next would be some variants of the Longear Sunfish.  Both in water bodies dominated by flow they also most strongly associate with pool areas.  They do seem to stack up in area of pools that are bordered by lots of flow.  They like edges with respect to flow regimens.

Make so whatever you get has a refuge from the strong flow in the tank.  Your bigger concern may be what you can legally acquire in CA.

Find ways for people not already interested in natives to value them.

A 20 gallon stream tank would be a bit small to house a long ear or redbreast sunfish and still have relatively fast flow areas.  A 40 to 55 gallon would be better.

O-spots adapt pretty well to stream or lake. They are smaller and considered to be mild mannered. That is still a pretty small tank for Lepomis.

yeah sunfish aren't really suited for a 20g let alone a stream tank luckly there are alot of realy cool fish that are. if you give a current stock list we could suggest something that would fit well.

Well it isn't really a native aquarium. I have some of loaches, some garra, tuxedo flying fox, and Sarcocheilichthys nigripinnis.  not really that much more room, but I could probably add some more fish. I would prefer to add some natives since I don't have that many at the moment.
