Hi everyone, I am new to the forum, but not to collecting or keeping native fish. I have spent most of my collecting time in the diverse Southeast where I pursued a fisheries degree at Murray State. Now I find myself in the upper Midwest, specifically Sioux Falls, SD. Not a lot of species to pursue for collection in the area as I am most interested in darters, dace and shiners. I did find a population of southern redbelly dace in the area that was previously unknown to the state non-game biologist so that was pretty exciting! They are extremely rare in the state of South Dakota with only 3 known populations!

I see that there are a few members from IA, MN and WI. I spend as much time in the driftless area as possible trout fishing and would love to meet up for a fishwatching or collecting trip if there are any members in the area who wouldn't mind me tagging along! I would also not be opposed to a north/central MO trip if there are members in that area since KC is only about a 5 hour drive from Sioux Falls.

Welcome to the forum.  I am too far away to go collecting with, but there are some members up your way.

Darter Hunts are held annually in southeastern Minnesota. Contact the Minnesota Regional Rep for more information. The Roughfish Round-up is also held annually in SE MN. You can check it out on Roughfish.com

Dues paying members can add collection data to Fishmap. Very handy tool. Sounds perfect for something like a new SRBD site. Welcome to the forum.

Check the Minnesota Aquarium Society Facebook page and web site. Members can go on spring collection trips, but the closest they get to you is about a hour south of the Twin Cities.
