Buy a couple of those Marimo moss balls, they kind of look like moss covered rocks.moss ball.jpg

My almost 9 year old wants a turtle for her tank.

Marimo moss isn't tropical, it's actually an algae that is native to most of the northern hemisphere and it's the environment that makes it ball up. https://plantsam.com...ropila-linnaei/

Is the turtle shell real or ceramic?  If real, it will fall apart pretty quickly under water, and may also release more phosphate than you want.  Best blue-green slime bloom I've ever had (and I've had lots of them over many years) was the time I had brilliant idea of using hollow beef bones as caves for some brackish-water gobies.

Are phosphates good for inverts and fish? It's ceramic, the only fake thing in the tank minus the filter

Very sorry to hear that.

Most people find fish-keeping ... in moderation ... to be a harmless and fun hobby. It's usually only when you get to 400+ tanks that need 30+ hrs of maintenance per day that it becomes problematic for family and friends.

I'll try this summer, my dad let me have a tank last summer but only for the summer. Maybe I can get a full time tank with some string pulling

Pardon me for prying, but why is your dad against you having an aquarium?

Looked great while it lasted. For someone in high school facing the hurdles you are facing you did a great job.

I don't understand why, he said no new pets. My brother got a hedgehog and I got 3 new lizards which he's mad that I got but my mom let me. I said yesterday "the frogs are coming out" he says "No!, No! I know you better your not having a frog". I have had them before and he said no then didn't care. I don't understand as he had a snapping turtle as a kid. I did have 2 petco bettas that died within 5 weeks, that's might be why
