I tried minnow traps with questionable luck. I tried cast nets and only got one fish as they tend to open when I haul them out of the water.

I was browsing Amazon.com and found Cast Net Traps exist. I wonder if anyone tried them and how well they work.

Never seen or used one, but it looks like it's basically a trap that you throw into the water instead of setting it. You'll want to check local laws- some states may not allow minnow traps with openings that large.

This is just a regular trap, no different from the double funnel designs out there, the seller/manufacturer uses Cast net in the name just to capture more search hits and views.

As far as using cast nets... don't grab the horn when you pull them up (just hold onto the lines till it's on land then use the horn to open over a tray or container.

Traps in general are usually based on placement and bait, one bait will attract one species over another. It's a matter of where you put the trap, and bait you use.
