I just found a large leech in one of tanks along with a large number of dead snails. Not sure what species it is, but at rest it looks like a round flat piece of rubber about as big as a 50 cent piece...

Anyone know what species it might be? It most closely resembles this one but this is a stock google photo.

An actual photo of the leech might be more helpful.

Just don't put it on your hand. If it ate the snails, it's unlikely to bite you, but still.

Moon - Look up turtle leach. I forget the genus name but we talked about them some time back.

Betta - they do mistake large guys in neoprene for turtles sometime. Had one latched on just a few weeks ago in NH. Didn't hurt but it sure did bleed.
