First off, for those scientific collecting permit holders out there who expressed interest in sharing your experiences/activities/results/so on with me- no, I haven't forgotten and yes I am starting to figure out how I want to do it given the varied responses I have received.

But here's an easier idea I've thought about doing as a little one page or so filler piece. Not "filler" as in it's just some crap to make AC look bigger, but rather filler in the sense that sometimes we get to a point with an issue that we'd really like just a little bit more to shape the issue the way we (mostly Olaf, as he is the main man when it comes to the heights AC has risen to) want but can't really stretch anything already in the mix.

So here's the pitch; many of us have little tricks of our own personal trade for fish keeping. I am looking for everyday items people are likely to have but most of us do not consider using in our finny husbandry. From the forum I have come to see pvc pipe not only as a conduit for constructing fish rooms, but also as an aid to target feeding various fishes, a spawning location, cheap planting container, and hardscaping foundation.

As for my own contributions, coffee cups, bamboo grilling skewers and the egg-crate you find in the lighting section of hardware stores top my list.

What all unexpected tools do you have and to what purpose do you put them?

I set up a brine shrimp hatchery yesterday and was cursing my lack of a piece of rigid airline tubing.  I used a couple plastic coated twist ties to make it rigid with a bamboo chopstick. : )

A pointy stick is an amazingly useful tool for all sorts of things if you think about it.

And speaking of literature.  I really like the "Fish in Focus" bits on the home page.  I wish there were a lot more of them.

If you have an idea, let me know, would love to have more Fish in Focus authors. I did have another member recently ask about that possibility, so maybe we will get some more content.

A tubing splint. Brilliant!

Absolutely! The FIFs are Michael's baby, but we at AC would love more FIF, too. Kinda what happens lately is they get put up in AC and then forwarded on to Michael to post on the website, though that order is certainly reversible. It does not have to be this way all; it can go to the website only, or if Michael fed your favorite fish to Sandwich you can request to leave the website all together. We're easy. We also have "ghosts" who are willing to help with aspects of write-up if you want suggestions. So if you have a favorite finny friend, go for it! :)

BTW, there should be a new FIF up fairly soon. I believe the Mud Sunfish piece from last AC is due to go up. I think Michael may be waiting to have it forwarded to him in the proper format.

Or, he is just behind and needs to get it together... Meat's introduction is on its way!

Dude, you just hosted a killer convention. You've got a pass on getting it together for about three years...
