Does anyone have any sites in Dalton GA?  I'm looking to restock on Tri-Color and Rainbow Shiners.  I lost a bunch from the GA convention due to a tank failure.

I'm going to be in Chattanooga for a family weekend, but Dalton is close.  I have some locations where we caught both of those, but they are 2 hours away.  If possible, I'd like to stop by Dalton if I can get some sure-fire locations.

Since I'll have my kids, I was wondering about:

Al Rollins Park

Harlan Godfrey Park

Heritage Point Park.

Any info would be great.

Try Petty-Fairy Valley Park which is just off of 411 just north of Eton, GA.  Sumac Creek is NOT trout stream on the west side of 411, but it IS on the east side of 411.  This is in the Conasauga watershed so should have tricolors.  Not sure about rainbows without going a lot farther west (like over in Cave Spring, GA).

As far as rainbows in Cave Spring go, I only see one record from the '60s on fishmap. I haven't sampled much in that stream as far as fish go. There are Coosa Darters and Banded Sculpins in the spring run though. But that Little Cedar Creek is a great stream with fast riffles (a struggle if netting) and pools and hosts plenty Greensaddle Crayfish (Cambarus manningi) which requires higher oxygen levels so that's a good indicator of the stream quality though that's upstream not in the park. I'll need to go back sometime for seining since I'm only 30 min away and I'm sure there's a great assemblage of fish species there, possibly even Rainbows. There are some more recent records on fishmap near Rabbittown trailhead across the state line in Alabama at the Talladega National Forest for Rainbows if you're willing to make the 2 hr drive from Chattanooga but also be mindful of Holiday Darters there

My experiences at Cave Spring are in Little Cedar Creek, within the last 5 years (i would have to go look up the exact date) and yielded rainbows in the deeper holes.

Hello, I go to school in Dalton and I know we have shiners in the creek on campus. I'm more of an invertebrate guy myself but I can ask what types of shiners have been collected when I get to school tomorrow.

I think I'll go to the Harlan Godfrey park first. I'm not sure what time. Probably around 10-11am. Then Al Rollins if needed.

I'll respond here on what time I'll be there, so you can meet me if possible.

I'd be happy to have a seining partner.

Just took a stroll around the park, looks like a good location. Lots of sun fish for sure. I'm headed to class but be sure to let me know if you're ever back in the area.

At the first spot I found

Lots of Stonerollers, Creek Chubs, Bluegill, maybe a few longears. Also found some type of snubnose type darter. Thought it was a Banded, but they aren't in that drainage.

2nd park was worse.

I went to the park Michael suggested, and that was the spot.

Tri-Color Shiners, lots of Alabama Shiners, Greenbreast Darters, Studfish, and lots more. I could have stayed there all day, if I had help.

Im glad its still in good shape. That is Keith H favorite spot, and I saw him cast net the best looking black tailed red horse there (easiest to ID, even I get that one right).
