Indiana water snails.

I expect at some point we will have a few greenside darters and so along with that we will need snails. While I remember the common apple snails from tropical aquariums, the main purpose of this activity is to learn about local species. To that end, river snails seem to rather unloved in literature. Does anyone have a recommendation for a particular Indiana species that would be good for greenside darters?

greensides are snail eating specialists... in fact the hardest part about keeping greensides is feeding them enough... and they will suppliment their diet with ALL the snails in the tank.  so all snails go well with greensides, just not for very long.

Here's info on eastern Tennessee snails; probably some overlap with IN species.

No kidding here, it is crazy to watch. I have enjoyed the heck out of it. An outside tub during the warm months might provide you with plenty of nearly free snails. I wonder about freezing them? Never tried but might work.

I have never tried. Be worth a shot.

Yes they will but not very enthusiastically I also cut them up for them but still not taken as well as snails.
