This isn't fish-related and I hope that I am not in violation of any rules here, but these snails are plastered on just about every rock in the Olentangy River here in Ohio. Must be millions of them in any given 2 mile stretch of river. Does anyone know what species these are? I cannot find any information on them anywhere and I am pretty sure, judging by the sheer numbers of them I see that they're not a protected or endangered species. When my daughter and I wade the river to seine for minnows and darters, we end up coming home with about 10+ of these in our creek sneakers each time. Any ideas? This is the Ohio River drainage basin.

Thanks in advance.

http://www.fwgna.org/FWGTN/gallery.html

This site has info on eastern Tennessee snails, most of which probably occur in OH too.

Probably one of the Pleurocera species.

Thank you for your reply. Is there another link? The one you posted is an error 404. File not found. Doesn't exist.

Thanks kindly.

I've looked using some of the keywords you used and this might be Elimia Livescens, or the liver elimia snail. The distribution map I saw shows Ohio as heavy concentration of this species statewide. Actually, heavily concentrated in 10 surrounding states and up into Canada. Not hermaphrodites, sexes separated and rock breeders.

Start at FWGNA.org and navigate to the TN list from there.
