I cleaned out my filter today and found several crabs living in it. They are a species of shore crab found near here but instead of running for water when they are found they run further inland! The look a bit like a sally lightfoot crab mated with a fiddler crab but the males have no large claw. First time I saw one i thought it was a large spider! several of them were grazing in the filter floss in an emperor filter, on of the big ones, not sure if they make them any bigger or not, I've had it for almost 10 years. I've found lots of odd things living in my filters but crabs is a first!

Any pics? That's the coolest thing about saltwater to me, the biodiversity. I pick pods out and throw them to the fish when I clean my filters.

That's cool!!!!! Not yet, but I've had a few crab hitchhikers show up in my tank that I didn't know were there.

Maybe marsh crabs, Sesarma reticulatum or S. cinereum?
