Subject: Cape Fear River Partnership - news update
To:
Good morning Cape Fear River Partnership Id like to share great news that one of our most dedicated fish biologists in the Cape Fear River Partnership, Fritz Rohde, has been awarded the North Carolina Wildlife Federation 54th Annual Governors Conservation Achievement Natural Resource Scientist of the Year award!!
I am honored to have worked hand-in-hand with Fritz over the years to move forward the fish passage efforts at Lock and Dams 1, 2 and 3 as well as other dam removal efforts in the basin. Fritzs experience, institutional knowledge, willingness to step up and participate wherever possible, and most importantly his sense of humor has been invaluable to the successes of the Cape Fear River Partnership. Please join me in Congratulating Fritz on his award! Please see below for more information.

Natural Resources Scientist of the Year: Fritz Rohde, Wilmington
As a fish biologist for the National Marine Fisheries Service, Rohde is a staunch defender of freshwater, estuarine, and marine resources. He is known for his work on Cape Fear River fish passage and the Roanoke River fish restoration plan. Currently serving as president of the North American Native Fishes Association, Rohdes many publications and volunteer work well describe the uncommon breadth of his contributions to fish resources.
Thank you,
Dawn

Fritz Rohde, has been awarded the North Carolina Wildlife Federation 54th Annual Governors Conservation Achievement Natural Resource Scientist of the Year award.
That is a lot of words. It has gotta be important.
Congratulations Fritz, OUR president.
I wonder what kind of party they are going to give you. Might be a mass migration in order.

Fantastic .... and well deserved!
All that marine/anadromous fish work on top of Fritz's extensive freshwater non-game rare species survey and taxonomy work.
They should award him a pair of gold-plated knee joints.

Knee joints are definitely needed! Part of the nominating letter said that I "had an energetic almost obsessive curiosity about all things fish." I resemble that remark.
And to my surprise, kind words from Josh B.

Congratulations Fritz. I truly feel honored having had the chance to be in the water with you and partake of your vast knowledge. I know, that's a bit thick but you deserve this honor.

Extremely well deserved.
I'm not sure how far back my contacts with Fritz go, but throughout he has been more than generous with his time, a great ambassador for all things fishy, and of course supremely knowledgeable.
There aren't that many fish scientists who are household names. Fritz is one of the few. (In my household anyway.)
Congrats, Fritz.
