FWIW. In the past there have been threads on creating/maintaining black water for our finny friends. I received the following as an email from a vendor who deals mostly with amphibians. I have no direct knowledge of the product but thought some of you may be interested. I have bought from this vendor in the past (for frog stuff) and was happy.

I'm fortunate in that South Mississippi is riddled with blackwater streams. The untreated water is drinkable but has a distinct odor and taste. For a nominal (read "princely") sum I will extract the essence from these streams and ship it in convenient 4oz. bottles (contains artificial colors and flavors).
