I moved him to my hospital tank. Booted the rainbows. Dropped 10 gallons so I could treat him with furan2 and kanaplex. He's still alive but showing no changes. Not worse or better :/ here's hoping.

Just hope the other fish I've never seen is doing better than this guy was :(

I think Okefenokee Pygmies are my favorite.  Such cool, unique body form and mind blowing color and pigment patterns.  Little gems sparkling in the shadows of the plants.  Anybody looking for gilberti might want to consider Okefenokee.  Color-wise they are really identical.  And of course behavior and needs are the same.  One thing I think is not widely understood is that both of these species can vary a lot depending on where they were originally collected.  They live in microhabitats that are isolated from one another in many cases.  This leads to unique traits developing in individual populations.  Some populations are likely more mixed genetically as flooding and stream flows relocate fishes to interbreed with fish in other microhabitats in their drainage.  An endless source of variation to entertain the aquarist and garden pond keeper.  Thanks for sharing, Cricket and Gerald!

I love them ❤ thanks for the information. I'm afraid I may only have gotten the one female :( I have identified 4 positively males and 1 positively female. There is one junior that showed body blues with a flashlight. That leaves only 1 fish still unidentified. I never see that fish the way I never saw this poor sick fish. I hope it is a juvenile female since I have so many mature fish and only 1 female. This poor girl is going to be hounded :(
My fellow is still down for the count but he hasn't given up yet. Keep your fingers crossed.

Oh, I haven't been on the Forum in a while, and forgot to page through to the end of the thread before posting!  My comments are out of step with where you are at.  Very sorry about the sick fish!  I would put it out of its misery.  I think you got these fish from me, right?  If you find you are short of females, I'll be happy to send you some more.  I think maybe you had requested young fish, or was that someone else?  Anyway, if so, young are really hard to sex.  But with Elassoma orders, I shoot for an equal mix of males and females when packing, unless something else is requested.  And Gerald is right, these are fairly short lived fish (though results can vary widely), and old fish, of any species, are prone to various ailments... like old people!  I would give him a peaceful retreat into the sunset, but that's just me.

Oh hi lol. I have to admit it took me a minute to come up with a charitable response to your first post but I figured something like that happened :) I've named this guy Dusky and he's still kicking. I have to admit his body looks so perfect and beautiful
I'm beginning to wonder if maybe it is just his time :( if I don't see any improvement 24 hours after a 2nd dose maybe I will just help him transition???

Dusky is still going. Round two of meds today so here's hoping for improvement.

I would like at least one more female. How would that work?

will do. Thank you.

I am sorry to report that Dusky has gone on to the great sea in heaven where he will hopefully have many wives, lots of territory and no competition. His eye did look infected however aside from that his body was pristine and beautiful. I laid him to rest in the garden and said a little prayer then cried for a spell. :(

Moving on . . .

He was a well-loved little guy!  What more can one ask?

I'm a little bit freaking out. These two have been fighting for about 10 Minutes and counting. I'm used to much shorter skirmishes. Should I split them up?

Yup, male sunfish fight ... even the pygmy ones!  Is this a 10 gal tank?  Splitting them up might be best, or insert a divider.

Gerald I stalked you yesterday (and several others) and sent you a pm on Facebook. I'm sorry 😢 please forgive me 🙏🙏🙏
I need to learn to chill :/ I'm a bit touchy after poor dusky.

It is a 10g and I did end up splitting them up. I hope anyway. It's so hard to tell them apart. I need more plants since I split the tank into two. Working on it.
Mark at Jonah's aquarium is going to send me more females which is awesome! Thank you Mark❤ I also found the other fish that I never see. I think I was in fact seeing it as there are two juveniles that are sharing territory nicely.

That was a great video BTW; i've never seen them display side-by-side that long.  Usually one just slams the other quickly and it's over.  We've all been the nervous newbies from time-to-time, "stalking" those that seem to have experience and advice.  You will be the stalked one soon enough ... you're one of those few that really pays close attention.

Right?! I've read that more than once! Even in . . . maybe a dissertation, based on the language?? (That's not it. Abstract? I need sleep) So I was very worried! These two!😟 It's very sweet of you to sweep it aside (while safely not replying 😂) seriously though, thank you!

I can fix stuff. What do you want it to look like? I deleted your one post that you blanked out and wrote "oops".

Hey Michael. I said "I have to admit" twice in the post I quoted below. Can you sub out "In my humble opinion" for the duplicate wording?

Lmao. Clearly feeling cheeky today. I think it was the mountain dew I had instead of coffee 😀

And since I'm a nerd I made this video

This video shows the hydra and about 30 seconds in some white dots swimming on the glass. I don't know what the white dots are but the hydra is clear. Anyone?
