That looks great Cricket!!!!!

 thank you!!!

What kind of black sand are you using?

it's about 150lbs of black diamond blasting sand. The finer stuff. It's super soft. Each 50lb bag was less than $10. Can't remember exactly how much. I think $7.

I bought a bag of the black diamond blasting sand a couple of months ago, but have not opened it yet. Do you have it layered over something that would deliver more nutrients to plants?

Indeed I do. I spent about a month mineralizing soil for the tank while the wood soaked on the last day I was drying it out before sifting out the larger pieces a neighbor cat used it for a litter box 😣👿 never in my life have I wished harder for a 22 then at that moment when I found (smelled) the problem! Alas a friend told me about a web site that sells potting soil already mineralized for 5 bucks a bag (pretty small bags) but definitely worth it for me after my experience. It comes preloaded with potter's clay and some dolomite and potash to lay below the soil. I added a little extra kitty litter because I bought slightly less than prescribed and I happened to have half a bag anyway. The sand is VERY dusty. Far more than pool filter sand so definitely rinse well ahead of time! If you're interested in the soil let me know and I can find you links.

That is a nice and well balanced looking tank. Not overcrowded. I like it. I think is easy for those of us without an artistic mind to try to either jam in as much habitat as possible or throw a sponge filter in a bare bottom 30 long. Nice to see some of these well thought out tanks around here lately. Some good threads with nice tank designs, kind of makes me wonder if there are any freelance opportunities for tank design? Who designs tanks for public aquariums? Is it done in house or farmed out?
